2006 Power Lunch Series

Waste to Energy:  Advances in Biomass Technology

June 5 , 2006, Fluno Center, Madison, Wisconsin

WPUI is pleased to present the Waste to Energy:  Advances in Biomass Technology Power Lunch conference with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin.

Program Summary
Wisconsin has a wealth of plant, animal, and waste-based biomass making conditions in the state ripe for expansion of the energy source.
Several Wisconsin entities are actively researching methods for expanding biomass and renewable energy policy incentives; developing advanced technologies for hydrogen and ethanol application, fuel cells, anaerobic digesters and more; and exploring economic development efforts, employment opportunities and possible synergies between biomass industries and the university.

The Wisconsin Public Utility Institute will host a discussion of recent local and regional biomass developments and prospects. In a “power lunch” format, this conference will explore three technological operations, then discuss the policy frameworks that make these types of advances possible.

The discussion will also cover additional emerging biomass technologies, both small and large-scale, and how viable these technologies are given current conditions. This conference will give consideration to whether Wisconsin should continue to develop and support their bio-based industries and, if not, what might be a more effective energy alternative.

Who should attend
This course is intended for commercial and residential energy buyers, competitive energy service providers, employees of consumer organizations and electric and natural gas utilities, energy utility practitioners, legislative staff, regulatory staff, state and local government personnel.
